Hi all,
Need some assistance.
Used the car on and off during lockdown to get to work then suddenly stopped working. I've changed battery and starter motor but still nothing. You can hear the fuel pump priming and when you turn the key you hear the starter clicking but nothing. I have power as all the electrics work. We have tried jump starting with no result. Any idea if there is anything else im missing?
Cheers
Adam

Is that a new new battery or another used battery ?

As John ask, battery? The other thing you say you have changed the starter motor, did you check it before fitting it,

Bad earth
Run a secondary earth cable, from the earth bar near the battery, to the mounting bolts of the starter.

Battery had a health charge done on it under warranty so should be OK, also wouldn't jump start, but still have full power to all electrics so think that eliminates the battery?
Will try the earth and add an extra lead on

And if the earth lead doesn't work, and you are sure it isn't battery then it must be the starter motor solenoid contacts .

Earth lead didn't work, so I'll take start off when I'm off nights and clean the Contacts and also on the leads themselves

Has it still got the original immobilser
or has it been bypassed
if bypassed check the connections on the bypass,or
if you have after market alarm try taking it off

As I understand it, the 'first click' you hear will be the solenoid trying to make the contacts hard enough to spin the starter motor.
By the time it starts to rotate it will have enough inertia to bring the contacts into hard contact , because now it has to turn the engine over.
Massive current draw on battery.
Once the engine 'starts' , it will accelerate the starter out of mesh , by which time you have released the key . Contacts open.
Job done.
Worth testing the solenoid/starter motor before you put it back on the car.

Like cpt wrote, it is just possible the relay contacts to the solenoid are faulty , worth checking First.
