Cam cover gasket - Drain coolant?

I’m changing my rear cam cover gasket and the Haynes manual says to drain the coolant. Do I have to do this?
It’s not mentioned on other instructions I’ve read.
Thanks
Kevin

Hi, no you don't have to drain the collant, but there are water pipe going to the TB which you have to remove and you will get a little bit of water draining out of the lines,
I've had my IM off many times and never had to drain the coolant, best thing to do is get rid of the hayne's manual,
I never use the hayne's manual, I use the ford manual
Good luck. PS don't forget about the hidden bolt on the back of the IM 👍

Currently looking for that bolt. Can’t even see where it is. Where is it?

You can’t see it :!:
& only just feel it :o
Arm in in the gear box side of the engine, at the back, below the MI
It hold the bottom bracket on the MI to the head :)

Thanks guys.
Luckily I have a cheap digital borescope so I could look round the back and see it. Once I got a small ratchet on to it it came out easy. Then I found some other things I hadn’t disconnected.

I was surprised to see how rough the casting is inside the manifold, grinding that smooth should make a difference but I don’t have time for that this time.

Any recommendations for gasket sealer to use on the cam covers? I bought good quality gaskets from rockauto.

Thanks
Kev
