Mysterious Code 13

Post by Sunfly » Wed May 06, 2020 2:27 pm

I pulled my codes with my analogue multi-meter method and all went very well indeed. However I got an odd result. First thing to say is the the reading was very clear with long pulses for the first digit and short pulses for the second so really easy to read. Codes were as follows.

!0/11 IAT sensor
13
15 Hego (Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen (Left) continuous less than 0.55v output
17 HEGO (left) - output not changing.

The bible also says that 17 can indicate a "condition other than a HEGO circuit malfunction! (However with 15 as well its probably the HEGO)

Left and right seems a bit ambiguous but I did trace the Left in the bible down to the front sensor (thank goodness) as that's easy to get at. Before I worry about the IAT or the HEGO, I've got another small problem to worry about, so I'll try and solve that first then clear the codes and see if they come back.

So my question to the guru's is...? What is code 13....! Its not listed, or at least not in the engine diagnostics!

Thank you,

Grasshopper.

Hi Barry.

Yes there is a 13 regarding the air bag but it warns on the console, flashing the air bag warning light so its not that one. Ta.

I have looked on several sites and none of them show a code 13. I remember something that Mark ( original owner of the club) used to say that there were a couple of bogus codes that used to show sometimes.

You might find that once you have corrected anything and reset your codes it might go away, I believe that it is nothing to be concerned with.

Thanks Trev, that's helpful. Unfortunately I've got real bad trouble at the moment, but I'm just going through all the favourite gremlins one by one to give as clear a picture as possible before I post for some heavyweight technical help.

I'm sure you know this Bob , the IAT is incorporated with the MAF unit.
I know some are paranoid about the exhaust gas sensors but I ran M515 for at least 150,000miles without them working.
The ECU inputs an 'average value' if nothing better arrives from them.
It still did 38mpg,no problem and never failed an MoT on emissions.

Hi John.

I'm not stressed about the HEGO or IAT warnings as its just passed an MOT and the emission's were as perfect as it gets. However, I'm not going to clear them out as I've got a non starter at the mo. I'm just going through all the basic stuff so I don't waste anyone's time, but please look out for a new post from me if I don't find the fault soon.
