Today I drove up to Ashington (pouring down) got the for 09:00 and meet Dave, we went to his lock up, managed to get his car out (still raining)
Coolant levels checked and topped up, car starts ok and runs for a few minutes then revs down and engine cuts out, Took me about a hour to get the car to run steady, after managing set the base idle, (had to put my battery on the car to get run after messing about pulling codes)
Pulled the code, 17, 24, 25, 28, & 41 ,

Left the car running and all seemed ok (sat at 1000rpm) tried to drive it (just up and down ) but revs hunting 2000 -1500, 1000, managed to get car back in the garage, (still raining) It will sit at 1000 rpm, but when you touch the throttle and off again rev``s hunting again, in the end had to stop couldn`t do any more due to the weather. (got a little wet)

Can any body give me any advice were to go next. Thanks

Maybe one if the following, TPS, IM, VAC, or whatever it's called, need cleaning or changing, one thing at a time?

Timing?

I'd start with the Basics.
Run it up with no Air Box so that you can see if the VAF is moving freely.
Then i would hunt over the VAC Pipes to see if there is any obvious splits etc.
After that it would be Throttle Body off and lean out the IAC Valve underneath it.

Some of the Codes are for O2 Sensors so it might be worth fitting new ones to eliminate them.

Lastly on a 'M' Reg i had it once where the Cat Brick that lives in the Rear Manifold actually dropped down the Pipe and got stuck in the 'U' Bend of the Exhaust.
This Blocked the exhaust on the Rear Bank causing it to behave similar to what your describing but this would be last resort if all else failed.

Looks like the same one I went to look at in Bucks about 8/9 years ago
