Re: HELP
This is message from garage …
Thought I’d message just so you’ve got everything written down for reference.
I was wrong with the overfuelling, the initial smell of fuel from the exhaust must of been because it had been run with a misfire, sorted that by cleaning the spark plugs and adjusting the ht leads and the fuel smell cleared.
Now we are left with pure white smoke, it had a black tinge initially. This is coolant entering the combustion chamber. Suspect either a faulty head gasket, warped/cracked head or block. We carried out a cylinder leakage test on every cylinder with the coolant cap off hoping to see bubbles but there was nothing, however we do have blow by on the piston rings, when pressurising cylinder 1 you can hear air coming out of cylinder 3 (will send a video).
We did carry out a head gasket test with fluid but it’s difficult to do properly on an older cooling system that doesn’t have a coolant reservoir, the fluid did change colour slightly in the lower chamber though. The coolant hoses are going very hard when the engines hot which is a sign the combustion gases are pressurising the cooling system. It took about half a litre of water this morning from where the level was last night.
The fuel pressure regulator diaphragm is also split, there’s fuel entering the vacuum system, not a lot but there should be none. The fuel pressure regulator solenoid is doing nothing also, fuel pressure is constant, it should vary with engine speed and load.
So really it’s needing the engine rebuilt, new fuel pressure regulator and most likely the solenoid to.
Cheers

Re: HELP
Ah, not good, If you find another engine, what's to say that will be any better? Also as your car is a later car, remember that you may need to change over more items if you buy an early engine.
will the garage be fitting the replacement engine?

Re: HELP
You will need a 96,97 car, if you go to buy an engine, check that it has a S1 dizzy.
However, you might find that an earlier car is a better option, it just means a few more things to swap over
