Coolant cap
Hi everybody I am new to this forum. I have just bought a 1996 24v Probe. Straight away the coolant cap on the left hand side of the engine has failed. The rubber gasket under the cap has split allowing steam out. I have been to GSF the ford main dealer in Sheffield all no joy. The ones they had listed all have the expansion spring underneath which mine does not. Any ideas where I may get one please. Many thanks.
Re: Coolant cap
Find an old cycle inner tube.
Take the coolant cap off and pull that rubber 'washer' away from the centre spigot.
Cut a same size diameter washer from the inner tube rubber.
Punch a 5mm dia hole in the centre of the washer.
Now, stretch the centre hole over that centre location spigot left in the cap.
Smear some silicone grease over the washer.
Clean up the face of the coolant filler with a scouring pad. That's why your rubber washer failed , it was rough.
Smear more silicone on that face too.
Refit. Done.
