Probefest Perspective! 10 years ago...

Post by Andy W » Tue May 29, 2018 4:46 pm

It's only NINE days to the start of Probefest 2018!

I was talking to Trev at the weekend about Probefest 2008 which wasn't our biggest year but was fairly well packed into the site we were at.

I was quite disappointed to hear that people still haven't got their tickets yet. In some respects it's not a surprise, money is tight for a lot of people including myself but I've not missed a one yet.

Looking back to 2008 though there were a staggering 5,282 Probes on the road - yes that's cars on the road not including SORNs, compared to just 472 at the start of 2018.

So to our 100 or so members of UKPOC please get yourself along to 'fest this year - it will be great, Trev said he's ordered the sunshine!

I have had a probe since maybe 2003 and never got to fest but I am going all out to pop over on saturday money not the problem just time to get the ticket.meant to do today but time gone and I need to get when I can concentrate.I think life has changed that people probably cannot plan so far in advance these days.Plus it seems excuse me swearing but sods law a load of you guys hitting a few issues with cars lately.A good thing I havnt bought a ticket yet as means I am chilling more lately.Plus probes aside got to chat with you over my new camera.Welcome your opinion on it and need advice on one setting rest will figure with time.Would have tried to spend longer there but too much on to atrange camping.Lately just not enough hours in the day and how the guys and girls who do long hours fit it in I dont know. Not getting the harp out but I do it alone so dont share chores but I dont have family so maybe more time.who Knows?
Ticket sales may be just like me a case of last minute dot com

Believe it or not ,when you retire you find you have even less time to do things than you had before.

I can believe that as my work has declined I feel I have less time.
Also I know I labour this point but I still struggle to know which event is next.Getting more orientated and admit my brain unusual but maybe newbies just missing events.Remember loads of you know the calendar.
Not a complaint but maybe a reason why??
Trying to be constructive.

Since my first fest, 8 years ago, numbers have dwindled, however looking at Andys numbers, lower fest attendance is inevitable and not surprising.

However, and it may sound stupid but i don't believe the weather of late has helped either.
The last few years have not been the best and with wet weather those people who come regularly,
decide not come and they get out of the habit.

I will be there rain or shine but i know not every one is the same.

As also said cars of a certain age develop problems...

Ive had a water pipe go, the thermostat fail and the water temp sensor go all in one week.
Thankfully that was last week and if things come in threes, ive done all 3.... :D :D :D

My first one was 2009 as that was the first time I had a Probe that could get there after I blew the head gasket on one and a man drove into another. I don't think we've missed once since then though. It was the year Mark was extremely hung over and blamed sunstroke.

Only missed one since it started back at the Watersports centre in Nottingham, remember being told at the first one that the Tents etc had to be down and packed away by about 10:00am as the Sunday was a Car Show πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„

I was playing with the statistics again. Remember our record year at Fest 2010 when we had 96 cars turn up. There was 2758 Probe on the road that year so that 96 was just 3.48% of all the Probes.

We only need 16 probes at fest to equal that proportionally. Scary stuff.
