Re: Need some serious help please

Well done on your diagnostics, it certainly points to that CPS2 as being the problem.
Strange it should fail though , it only generates a 'pulse' as the 'blade' moves through the gap. Generally a pretty rugged device.
Fingers crossed.

Re: Need some serious help please

External coil details posted off to Tomcat yesterday.
That's it, I have no copies.
I was always able to get working spares for the '94 Probe so never had to resort to the external version but definitely the way to go.

Re: Need some serious help please

It would be interesting to know if ANYONE in the club is running a Probe with the external coil + igniter system installed ? Anyone, please reply with your experience. That said , mostly we all agree that distributor failure is caused by two situations. 1/ The absurdly small relay contacts in the Bo...

Re: Need some serious help please

You've got me thinking about the immobiliser now ! This is from the '94 Bosch System Arming/Disarming words. NOTE : Due to the rolling code security feature, the immobiliser will not respond if the remote control button is pressed 255times while out of range of the receiver. To restore the remote co...

Re: Need some serious help please

When it worked, the old dissy was the right dissy. Is there anything on it which absolutely defines it as 'different' from any of those others you have tried ? I know you are looking elsewhere now, but my 'gut' feeling is still the distributor. The almost unthinkable is the ECU and if worst came to ...

Re: Fried ECU transistor

I would believe the reading of 14 ohms rather than the Haynes figure.
Almost certain it is the old IAC that killed your transistor.

Re: Fried ECU transistor

Best check that has a meaningful resistance and the solenoid is working properly , or else it will happen again.

Re: Advice welcome - 16V resurrection after 10 years.

DO NOT put a new battery on and turn the key !
Plugs out, thin oil in, O/S front wheel off the ground ,in gear, turn the wheel for half an hour by hand, try to get the engine to turn clockwise.
Put it all back together, check oil/water /fuel level, new battery, turn the key.

Re: Need some serious help please

As you said at the start Bob, you do have the last (third ? ) iteration of Probe distributors.
This is where they really scrambled the alphabet on the connections.
If it cranks, has fuel, times ok, sparks, it has to run !

Re: Temic immobiliser help

Now it sounds like the 'handshake' between Temic and ECU isn't working like it should.
Someone may know the procedure for resetting the Temic/ECU link.
