Re: The infamous Connector

Though I loved the life , dear old Blue Funnel were mostly DC powered and I thought my only other job prospects would be as a curator in a DC museum. So, a big relief to get to Hinkley Point B. Which is how I got to 'play' on the reactor simulator at Berkeley , irradiating most of the West Country ...

Re: The infamous Connector

Oh Bob , " Them were the good ol' days "! I still have a Laurence Scott publication 119 written by Dr Schwarz in 1949 on Schrage motor drives. Part of our HNC curriculum in 1964 when true variable speed was like the Holy Grail. Laurence Scott were competitors of my apprenticeship company (Maudsley'...

Re: Gear box oil

Ohhhh. A job for everyone this year ? Could we have a mini fix to sort this issue or can it not be done 'on site '? A damaged gearbox seal has to show a physical leak somewhere and to lose a whole gearbox full between mot/services you'd expect to see signs at your normal parking spot. As with all m...

Re: The infamous Connector

Hi Bob, and Happy New Year to all. Yes , those big old battery chargers we used to have back in the 60's , with the square fins and round discs in the middle. Copper oxide , used as semi-conducting diodes , we called them rectifiers. I even remember the editor of Practical Wireless writing , in 196...

Re: The infamous Connector

The other 'thing' that can happen to fine wire in copper crimped terminals is that it turns to copper oxide. And as we know , copper oxide is a semiconductor , only passing current one way . Make sure the wire under the insulation is really bright and shiny , not a dusty ochre colour. Hi John. No, ...

Re: The infamous Connector

Done it myself in the past. Cut the Plug out and solder the Wires together 😎 Hi Jon. Good to hear that, thank you. As Trev mentioned soldering, I remembered that we use a special connector in the business for splicing wires that already has the plastic sleeve over it for sealing. Its a low melting ...

The infamous Connector

The Flying Machine failed to start the other day, crank, crank, crank, you know the score, then it bursts into life on its own or with a waggle of the plug and socket by the rocker box. The only fault I know of where a hitherto, perfectly running engine wont start then suddenly returns to life is a ...

Re: Misty windows

Its always been a bad feature of the car, even when new. My answer for a long journey is to get the heater going full bore, which with an efficient thermostat, only takes a couple of miles, then select outside air refresh and heat to the footwell and screen. If even that is not enough then encourage...

Re: Imobiliser fault when driving

Sounds like the dizzy to me.

Had that some years ago. Eventually it wouldn't even start. Incidentally, the tacho gets its pulse from --- the distributor!
