Re: 1995 2.0 litre transmission

Hi - I have a similar problem with my GT, although maybe not as bad? To shift into 1st i have to give the stick a quick 'wobble' and it goes in easier than just a straight push. From 1st into second, there is a slight 'catch' to the feel of the gear change and another slight gearstick wobble gets me...

Re: Inner CV joint boot split

Inner boots are easy to replace, you don't even need to remove the drive shaft from the the car. :) Don't let any garage tell you otherwise :o Simply split the inner joint, undo the hub/strut bolts. Swing the hub/driveshaft out the way, remove surclip at the end of the shaft, slid off the " ball ca...

Inner CV joint boot split

Hi All - was wondering if anyone can estimate the garage cost of replacing a CV joint boot? One of mine has a big split - drivers side inner on the diff output I think? I took it to the best garage Here has to offer - he looked admiringly at the car, said he worked on them years ago but said he coul...

Re: Rocker cover gaskets Again!

Labour of love ? Yes, absolutely. Cost any work you do at 'garage rates' and you will soon exceed the resale value of the car. As other posts, check for flatness of both surfaces, head and cover. If the cover is 'banana-shaped', even a 'little' , between the holding down cap nuts ,it cannot be made...

Re: Rocker cover gaskets Again!

I did apply RTV to the cylinder head surface. Also applied it to the groove in the rocker cover where the gasket goes. Do you also apply RTV to the gasket itself once it is located in the rocker cover? I bought a low torque torque wrench - tightened up the bolts to correct torq. The torque suggested...

Rocker cover gaskets Again!

Hi - having replaced both rocker cover gaskets twice in the 3 months I've owned my Probe GT, seems I must do it again! It's the rear one so off with the inlet manifold! I have smoke coming from just to the left of the clutch master cylinder. What do I have to do to keep the rocker gasket sealed for ...

Re: Cam cover gaskets.

I've done the full gasket change on my Probe GT - done it twice in fact on the same job. BGA was the gasket brand - mostly as that what ebay has! it took me an age the first attempt. I always take ridiculously long with anything first time - second time its done in a day and i look back and wonder w...
