Re: 1994 2.0 not starting

As I understand it, the 'first click' you hear will be the solenoid trying to make the contacts hard enough to spin the starter motor. By the time it starts to rotate it will have enough inertia to bring the contacts into hard contact , because now it has to turn the engine over. Massive current dra...

Re: 1994 2.0 not starting

And if the earth lead doesn't work, and you are sure it isn't battery then it must be the starter motor solenoid contacts .

Re: Cooling fan problems

One fan for engine , the other fan is for air conditioning system. Each fan has two relays, one for low speed , the other for high speed. There are TWO engine coolant sensors, one for temp gauge , one for the two low/high speed relays of both systems. The relays are driven by predetermined settings ...

Re: Engine/gearbox

Another item to check really closely while everything is out.
The power steering 'oil cooler pipe' that runs across the front of the radiator for corrosion.
Replace with copper pipe would be nice.

Re: Help Please, No Brakes.

A lifetime in 'maintenance' convinced me of the truth of 'the inverted ' bathtub curve' and , wherever possible, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' theory. Essentially , if things go wrong it will be directly after (faulty) 'maintenance' and at 'end of useful life'. So, coincidence that your brakes f...

Re: rear brake calipers.....MOT WOES

The Sherlock Holmes way, eliminate what is working well and you are left with............what isn't. So, using the foot brake, everything was ok ? YES , eliminates pads and disc and hydraulics , they are ok. So, it is purely a 'mechanical' problem. As said, the way the movement of 'pull' ( handbrake...

Re: rear track control arm

Don't throw the old one away ! To remove old bushes , just run a fine hacksaw cut along the 'cylinder' enclosing the bush. A screwdriver in the gap, prise it open , tap old bush out. Now you have a choice if you cannot find the proper item. The cheap items from Latvia have good bushes which can be w...

Re: Engine/gearbox

Well done Malcolm ( and Janice ) , a real achievement , that's £50/hr min at 'garage rates' and the reason why only capable enthusiasts can keep these cars going. I can still remember changing the Alpine engine between getting home from work and starting work next day ! Could never have done that wi...
