Re: Gear change
Thanks everyone. Seems to have been a lot of interest in the topic, so I hope everyones contribution has been helpful to anyone with similar symptoms. We now know what to check first. I would add to check the small buhes of the UJ (stalk end from memory) if you have got sloppy gear selection. I fixe...

Re: Gear change
Good news, the new oil and UJ service seems to have done the trick. Gear changing is very much easier and smoother. I cant tell you which had more impact, but previously there were two notches and occasional clunking when changing gear, now there only seems to be one. I havnt tried a racing change y...

Re: Gear change
Hi Bob These are after market units which adjust the throw between gears and make it tighter suspect its just the play at the linkage at the u/j slightly more stiffer more precise but not to every ones taste So yours may need a good oil change and the linkage looking at as linkage hidden under the ...

Re: Gear change
That's a new one for me Bob, As for gearbox oil, I alway use synthetic GL4 This from the Oracle :- Synthetic gearbox oil is found to work the best, improving the 1st to 2nd gear changes especially when the gearbox oil is cold. In practice Redline MT90 GL-4 75w90, Valvoline Synpower 75/90 Synthetic ...

Re: Gear change
I went to see Stuart McCrudden yesterday who took the car out for a rigorous test drive (a little faster than I liked) and he seems to think the problem lies with the front UJ and not the synchro. Also suggested a lighter gear oil may help. Has anyone had experience of the gearbox end universal join...

Re: Gear change
Hi Andy and Malcolm. Tempting to think of the clutch but its new in mileage terms. I renewed it at about 82k and its now on 101k. New flywheel too (thanks Duncan) so new to all intent and purpose. Plus which, it disengages almost immediately and reengages high. With it in gear with the clutch in, th...
