Re: Oil pressure & tapping

...Ok - so having read a bit more, its a bit more involved. Replacing the friction spring is something you do when replacing the cam belt etc - as it involves completely removing the cams!

Re: Oil pressure & tapping

To avoid you having to read all the posts in the links, here is the relevant section from the MX6 forum: Each bank has two cams. Only one of the two cams on each bank is driven from the timing belt. On the front bank, the exhaust camshaft is driven by the timing belt. On the rear bank, it's the int...

Re: Oil pressure & tapping

Sorry to resurrect an old thread - My GT is still making this same noise when the engine is cold etc. Its still making it as i have been hesitant about removing the timing belt cover, although I've been sent a useful pic from member jrh - about making the tool to lock the crank pully before removing...

Hi Kit - you are not wrong! Just spotted it, low down on the dash. Never seen one there before!

Thanks for your help :-)

where is the VIN plate?

Hello all - I'm doing some work on my 24v - flushing cooling system for one. Also want to treat and seal some rust ender the radiator while its out. I need to get a couple of cans of paint made up but I don't see a VIN plate anywhere, nothing in the engine bay or the door steps etc. You guys have de...

Re: Oil pressure & tapping

Ok - stopped in my tracks :-)

Was going off 'weak pressure is causing the hydraulic tensioner to not do its job right' in the OPs previous post - seemed odd, a hydraulic tensioner linked to the oil system. I'll go back to the original advice!

Re: Oil pressure & tapping

Sorry to be dim - so the hydraulic tensioner is actually plumbed into the engine's oil system? Its not just an oil filled damper thing? I've been searching the 'net for 'ford probe gt replace oil pump' - guides. Mostly I end up on Mazda Miata forums. For them its remove the front subframe to open th...

Re: Oil pressure & tapping

Is this along the right lines for a hydraulic tensioner? EBay item no 153480862318 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153480862318 Seems the US is cheapest, despite postage and tax. There are plenty for a higher price in Australia and one or two even more expensive from our shores. I'll check my Haynes tomo...

Re: Oil pressure & tapping

I think you have just offered me some hope - my 24v makes the same noise, although its continuous, not on a cycle like yours. Just before lock down - it had got worse to the point that I decided it wasn't the hydraulic lifters. I haven't driven it in 5 weeks in case something breaks. I've done the s...

Re: Can dip sticks be wrong?

I would go with Kev, hydraulic tensioner, my Lazer sometime sounds the same when I start it up, sometime I have to start it up, then stop the engine and restart it a couple of times then the noise stops, I need to change it when I find some time THAT would be a relief! Belt tensioner is an easy fix...
