Re: General Probe buying advice

Don't know how relevant it will be now, as most cars are clocking the miles on, but earlier cars suffered from smoking caused by piston ring problems.

Re: Alternator

Was going to suggest Schmitz. I got my last one from them a couple of years ago. But the one they have listed for the 2.0 is £313.13!!! Ouch!!! :o

..and by the looks of things it's the wrong one anyway.

Try sticking an ad in the wanted section on here.

Re: Odd failures

If the 12v ACC feed isn't working, possibly a dodgy ignition switch.

Re: Rear o2 sensor

I managed with a spanner. But had to get the car on ramps, and go from underneath. Can't remember if I removed the crossmember for better access.

Just wondering where the owner got the idea from.
I believe in the USA, the 16v was known as an SE, and the 24v was a GT.

Re: Fuel pump

Getting it going is the problem. Cranks, with spark and fuel, but won't catch when cold. Once it's warmed up will it restart ok? Thinking possibly the Fuel Pressure Regulator Solenoid might be stuck open. It raises fuel pressure when the engine is cold to help with starting. Try disconnecting the v...

Re: Found my Weird Flappy Noise

My thoughts are, if it was the tensioner I'd expect the noise to be there all the time. The tensioner on the 24v is just a bar under hydraulic pressure which pushes against the tensioner pulley. So should put a fairly constant pressure. Starting and restarting the engine shouldn't really effect it. ...

Re: Fuel pump

Pleased to hear you're making progress. Some cars seem to fight you back sometimes. The leak behind the dizzy might be the bottom pipe from the radiator. The rubber hose pushes over a metal pipe which runs up under and behind the dizzy. It has a push fit at the top with an O ring that fits into the...

Re: Fuel pump

I'm with Malcolms thinking, I reckon if the CPS was bust there wouldn't be any spark.

If it's getting spark, and fuel, the other thing to check is timing. Both ignition, and cam.

When the engine is turning over is it making any sort of noise that it's trying to start, or just cranking?
