Car cut out whilst driving. RAC man couldn't fix. Baffled he was
Have spark and fuel. 8)
Pulled codes 8 (MAF) and 17 (O2 sensor).

I find it strange that both should fail at exactly the same time - or does one failing cause the other to show a code? :?: :?:
Would failure of either/both actually prevent the car from starting though? :?: :?:

What to do first is my question :?: - any thoughts welcome.

Working nights atm so apologies if I don't reply immediately and cant work on car for a while.

Many thanks in advance.....

The O2 sensor won't stop the car , both mine went years ago, if anything the mpg improved !
IF the MAF is faulty, it will kill the engine.

Thanks! Will try to source another MAF.
I have a spare O2 but will do the MAF first and see if that works.

Cheers man

Faulty MAF as said will stop an engine but a New O2 sensor wouldn't go a miss

Cool. Thanks so much Jon. Any advice on where to source a good replacement? Seems like a lot are 'made in China' Lol

Take the MAF unit off first and make sure it hasn't just stuck open/shut.
Maybe as simple as that.

If you do find anything wrong with it then a good second hand one would be your best and cheapest bet

One on the way soon from Kit! Even if it isn't the MAF it will be good to have a spare!
Cheers Jon

Borrowed a MAF and tried. Still not starting!
Engine turns over fine.
As far as I can tell I have fuel getting through and injectors are pulsing.
Spark on all 4 plugs.
Baffled!
Help!

Air,fuel, source of ignition, has to run IF the timing is right.
You're missing something ?
Check all the basic needs, oil, water levels.

Tensioner on a 16V is only a spring so it's possible.

Looks like I've got low compression on most pots. Figures (from memory) were around 110, 90, 145, 110. What are the book figures? Guessing belt may have either slipped or shed a tooth?
