Lights on dash - Abs and Airbag issue

Hope you can all forgive my recent hounding of the forum but I’m finally finishing up the build and left the head scratching stuff until last.

So I’ve got a solid ABS light on followed by a flash Airbag light (flash 4 times) on the dash. No check Engine light.

Recently I have replaced the front bumper and in doing so, unplugged and replugged the front airbag sensors.

I have also changed all disks and pads but kept the ABS sensors connected.

All wiring is connected and I’ve tried resetting ECU (disconnect earth battery terminal and hold brake)

Prior to all work the dash was light free

Where do I go from here and what have I missed?

Thanks gurus :)

Can you double check your airbag lights, as 4 long flashes assuming they are long doesn’t register as a fault code.

I would check the connections to the front sensor, remove the battery terminal and leaving it for a few minutes before you pull the plug apart and back in again.

As for the ABS, you might need to read the codes, the how too is in the oracle

We may need to see video and or pictures of what you are seeing.

Hi,

I’m trying to read the OBD1 ABS Flashes - how do you translate these into numbers? There’s long and short flashes and I can’t establish a break between them. No way to upload a video either but if someone wants to private message an email for me to send a clip.

Also - The airbag light on the dash flashes 4 times if that means anything.

I can read the OBD1 GENERAL codes they flash 3 times with pauses inbetween. Book says that’s crank sensor but the car runs and drives fine. No EM light on the dash just Airbag and ABS

Thanks in adv for patience

You can send a video to my email, which you will see on my profile

You have access to the Oracle, you have to look on there and it explains what to do. Your flashes will be either long or short

You also need to check all the connections as mentioned

I have just watched your video on Facebook and you have the following codes
11, 12, & 14 which all point to wheel sensors.
Have you actually driven the car since putting everything back?

The other problem might be that the ABA module has been damaged some how

Thanks Admin :)

I have only turned the car around on the drive as it’s not got an MOT yet, would that not be enough?

Confused as to why would several working sensors flash up just from replacing disks and pads? As said I did not disconnect the sensors from the wheels.

Everything is connect as before .. I’ll disconnect the battery again and reconnect the front airbag sensors to see if that changes anything

These should be separate issues
Do you believe that the sensors and ABS rings are clean or maybe try and clean them all.
If it is possible to move the car a bit more it might help.
As I say you might find that the module is faulty?

Maybe we might have to concentrate on the ABS, then AirBag

Drove the car a “little past” the drive to see if it made a difference but sadly not

Sounds like a plan!
I will spend tomorrow morning checking leads and cleaning the sensors and get back to you. I’ll also disconnect and reconnect the bumper airbag sensors :)

A lot of pressure as these 2 issues are between 1.5 years of work and it’s MOT

Speak soon. Watch this space :D

Ok so quick update:

Still puzzled

Checked all the leads and everything seems to be in order, there is one end of a loom free at the front of the car behind bumper that I’m sure isn’t needed but I could be wrong (pic attached)

The ABS is more of a puzzle as everything has been cleaned and checked yet the light still persists. could someone suggest a source for new ABS sensors as a possibly may need to change these, I’m happy with new or used

Thanks all

You should be able to search for either Mazda MX6 or Mazda 626 GE (also known as the MK IV) sensors on Ebay. Also with the rears I think, you can buy either and just change over the bracket so it fits correctly.

If you do search for Ford Probe, then make sure it looks the same.
