Re: Distributor removal problem.

Sad to say but it looks like there is some serious butchery going on there with a screwdriver and a hammer. Cant understand why this is a problem. Once the screws are removed (cant remember how many on a 16v but has he got them all out), there is nothing preventing the dizzy coming out except an O r...

Re: Vaseline

Vasaline is a petroleum product so pretty good for anything on a car with the possible exception of AC seals. You don't want anything other than gas and AC compressor lubricant to come into contact with the internal system as foreign matter plays havoc with the fridge cycle, water being the worst.

Re: Urgent help required

Well done . How a fuse fails can tell you something. If you can see a small 'ball' on each broken end chances are it was running at max capacity for too long / tired. If nothing is left or spattered everywhere then something or somebody shorted the circuit somewhere ...................in which case...

Re: Gearbox oil

I’ve got a jag XK automatic 2008 The dealer refused point blank to change the oil as it can cause slippage but on the probe I’d highly recommend it. Oil absorbs water from the air which causes an increase in viscosity and a reduction in the oil film so a change on a probe box can only be good and ma...

Re: Unable To Remove Spark Plugs

Seems like the rubber cap has stuck itself to the inside of the tube. You're just faced with the task of trying to run a long narrow chisel ended 'screwdriver ' down the tube, to cut the ring off the side of the tube. You might think about an electricians hole cutter, but were it me, Id get a lengt...

Re: engine cut out

Absolutely Bob, and those tiny ignition circuit relay contacts are not big enough for the job after a few years SO you have to either jam that relay on, all the time with a matchstick OR short that circuit permanently. Or remove the immobiliser module completely, after all, it’s only 3 wires , that...

Re: Scuttle Panel - Paint or Replace

I got mine resprayed professionally and its been OK for six years but I have also seen people regenerating ABS with heat from a heat gun. Worth a try if youve got a spare. It gives instant results but I guess the risk is overdoing it.

Re: engine cut out

I've had this problem, and though I blame the distributor for absolutely everything including punctures, I don't think that's your problem this time! If you've still got the Bosch immobiliser, I think you've got a dry joint on the pcb because that's what caused my exact same problem. Here's the stor...
