Re: Engine brief cut out
Slight progress....I think I may have had two issues. The cutting out randomly while driving/hot has gone now that I have done the HEI mod and put a new ignition coil in. Sunfly - if your ignition module has failed this will resolve it, but the problem is you can't really know for sure if it's the i...

Re: Engine brief cut out
Alright I've completed the hei mod, only the ignition module, not the external coil. Was pretty straightforward. No issues and fired straight up afterwards. But......it hasn't solved my problem. Slightly stumped, may have to just take a chance on the coil being bad and buy yet another distributor. :...

Re: Engine brief cut out
Yeh sure, I'll take photos as I go. First hurdle is finding where to mount it, it's only small but there's not much spare surface!
Do I need to plug the immobiliser plug back in?

https://i.postimg.cc/v1WJ2RMc/PXL-20260214-132424659-MP.jpg This is the immobiliser plug. It looks like the correct wires have been taken and joined (badly). Any idea why the pairs on the plug have been soldered together? The plug has not been plugged in the whole time I've had the car. Should it b...

Re: Engine brief cut out
Thankyou - not had a chance to get into it yet but I'll use these pics to ensure it's been done properly. Strongly considering the HEI mod you linked - do you know anyone who has done it, or how successful it is? Baffles me that these dissy failures are so common! Seems mad! Apart from the distribut...

Re: Engine brief cut out
Not 100% sure to be honest. It was already done when I bought the car. I've seen the remnants behind the bottom of the center console I think.
Would it still be able to crank? Does it just inhibit firing?

Re: Engine brief cut out
No, the immobiliser is long gone. Seems to happen about 10-15 minutes into the journey. This morning was a nightmare though, don't feel I can trust it to go anywhere. After it started again I drove it back gently another ten minutes with no issues.

Apologies, 1994 24v. Sort of important that bit!
